This page explains how TiMBIM Explorer works with local file information, naming settings, Revit-related file metadata, and licensing data as part of its normal desktop workflow.

Scope

This page describes the behavior of the TiMBIM Explorer desktop app. Website analytics, ecommerce pages, contact forms, or other services used on the TiMBIM website should be described separately in the main site privacy policy where relevant.

Information Processed By The App

TiMBIM Explorer reads the local file and folder information needed to support its browsing, search, naming, rename, and licensing workflows. This can include filenames, folder names, file sizes, modified dates, file attributes, folder paths, naming-rule assignments, naming field values derived from active conventions, and the licensing details needed to validate access to the app.

  • Project and file information is read so file lists, details, search filters, and naming checks can be shown
  • User selections are used to decide which files or folders are included in rename, copy, move, or delete actions
  • Naming conventions can include user-defined fields, templates, examples, and mapping-table values
  • Licensing can use the provided seat email, app version, and a hashed machine fingerprint to validate access

Licensing Data

TiMBIM Explorer checks licensing before the main workspace opens. As part of that access check, the app can send the licensing details needed to validate the installation against the TiMBIM licensing service.

  • The license email entered by the user
  • The Explorer product key and app version
  • A machine fingerprint derived from local network adapter information and sent as a hash, not as a plain-text hardware list

TiMBIM Explorer does not require Autodesk sign-in for licensing. The licensing flow is based on the TiMBIM seat email and workstation validation for this standalone desktop app.

Revit File Metadata

For supported Revit files, TiMBIM Explorer can inspect local file metadata to determine information such as the Revit version, worksharing state, and central-path details where available. This is used to populate the details panel and to support "Open With Revit" actions against installed Revit versions on the same computer.

TiMBIM Explorer does not upload Revit files as part of this normal metadata workflow. The metadata read is intended to support local user decisions before opening or renaming files.

Local Storage

TiMBIM Explorer stores local settings that help the app remember pinned folders, naming-convention assignments, and related interface state between sessions.

Explorer-specific settings are stored under the TiMBIM Explorer AppData area. Shared naming rules are stored separately in the shared TiMBIM naming profile so they can be reused by other TiMBIM apps. Licensing also stores a local cache of the most recent validation result so temporary offline use can be supported within the configured grace period.

Network Behavior

Based on the current Explorer app workflow, routine browsing, naming, search, and rename operations are local-first. The app is not designed as a cloud indexing service or full-text content scanner. Its normal operations focus on file-system-visible names, metadata, and shared naming rules.

A network request can occur during licensing checks against the TiMBIM licensing endpoint to validate whether the entered email has access to the Explorer product. If the licensing service is temporarily unavailable, Explorer can use the most recent successful local license cache for a limited offline grace period when allowed by the licensing rules.
